Public-Private Strategies in Space Commerce: Courtney Stadd

Public-Private strategies are becoming increasingly important in the arena of space commerce. Governments are relying on private entities for services ranging all the way to astronaut transportation to the International Space Station and beyond, while those private companies often rely on government contracts to innovate and expand the horizons of space commerce.

Our guest on this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast is Courtney Stadd, founder and president of Capitol Alliance Solutions. Founded in 2005, sets itself apart from other firms by putting the emphasis on “solutions” to its clients’ needs – including both policy and business development challenges. Stadd believes that today’s economic challenges demand that government consultants need to be way more than “time and cost sinks” associated with networking among the key officials, drafting white papers, and related activities.

Capitol Alliance Solutions works with companies ranging from aerospace giants to small startups to formulate the public-private strategies that will lead to positive outcomes. On this podcast, Mr. Stadd discusses the differences between working with large and small companies, the effects of the continually-swinging political pendulum in Washington, D.C., the geopolitical and commercial space races, and how the potential sunset of the congressionally-mandated moratorium on extensive space regulations will change the space commerce landscape.

Prior to founding Capitol Alliance Solutions, Stadd served as NASA Chief of Staff and White House Liaison and Deputy Associate Administrator, Office of Advanced Concepts & Technology & Special Assistant to Administrator. He also served on the White House National Space Council from 1989 - 1992, along with a wealth of other experience in the public and private sectors.

How does what happens in space affect your everyday life?
