The event registered high participation and clearly demonstrated the enthusiasm with which new generations are approaching science, technology and space exploration. The proposals presented stood out for their level of innovation and their ability to solve real challenges faced by the industry.
“At UARX Space, we firmly believe that the future of space begins in the classroom. Events like this prove that the talent is already here, all it needs is the right spark,” the company said in a statement.
Participating Educational Centers:
CPR Compañía de María de Vigo
Colegio Ángel de la Guardia
Colegio Montecastelo
Colegio Acacias
IES Santa Irene
Escuela Rosalía de Castro
CPR Santa María de Tui
All participating teams demonstrated a high level of commitment and creativity, reminding organizers and the pubic that great ideas often emerge from the simplest places — especially when curiosity and passion for exploring new horizons come together.
The jury was made up of Farrah Lisa Meghazi, Deputy Director General for Industrial Promotion and Business Land; Ana Mejía, Acting Delegate of the Zona Franca de Vigo Consortium; Juan González, Mayor of Nigrán; Daniel Franco, Business Innovation Manager at Airbus DS; and Andrés Villa, CTO and Co-Founder of UARX Space. The jury faced a difficult challenge given the quality of all proposals, but after more than 10 minutes of deliberation, the three winning projects were announced.
The team from Colegio Ángel de la Guarda de Nigrán, which won first place, received a visit to the UARX Space facilities and the opportunity for the school’s name to travel into space onboard one of the company’s satellites. CPR Santa María de Tui and CPR Compañía de María de Vigo were also awarded as the second and third best satellite design, respectively.
This hackathon is now firmly established as a key initiative to foster STEM vocations and bring students closer to the opportunities of the space sector, an industry experiencing strong growth both in Galicia and internationally.
