Space Station Developer Fills Out Executive Ranks With Finance, Technology Hires
New CFO brings capital-markets background; new CIO arrives from Boeing subsidiary Insitu
Axiom Space named a new chief financial officer and a new chief information officer, according to a July 15 news release from the Houston-based company.

Zach Gitomer will serve as chief financial officer and Erick Wegerer as chief information officer, the company said. Both appointments were announced together as part of what Axiom Space described as building out its executive team for what it calls the “commercial space station era.”

Gitomer has more than 15 years of experience in corporate finance, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and strategic advisory work, according to the company. Axiom Space said Gitomer has advised on approximately 100 strategic and financing transactions representing nearly $100 billion in combined transaction value; the company did not specify a source or time period for that figure. Before joining Axiom Space, Gitomer held investment banking and capital markets roles at Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and Citi, the release said. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Wegerer previously served as chief information officer at Insitu, a Boeing subsidiary, where the company said he worked on cloud infrastructure, enterprise resource planning and cybersecurity while leading an information-technology and security team. He also held leadership roles at GBW Railcar Services and Sage, according to Axiom Space. Wegerer holds a master’s degree in business administration from Washington State University and a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Western Illinois University.
Axiom Space is developing Axiom Station, a commercial orbital facility the company describes as a successor to the International Space Station. The hires come as the company continues to expand its leadership team ahead of that project.
