Skyloom Joins Satellite Industry Association
The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) has announced that optical space data transport provider Skyloom is its newest associate member. Founded in 2017, Oakland-based Skyloom is deploying a network of GEO optical (laser-based) relay satellites to provide lower-latency and high-capacity data transport services for Earth observation LEO satellite constellations and other applications. Because every link in the Company’s network communication chain is optical, capacity is significantly greater than traditional RF and is expected to further increase as the technology evolves.
"Skyloom’s expertise in the innovative area of space-based optical or laser-based data communications makes them an ideal addition to the Association. SIA and its members look forward to working with our newest member, Skyloom.”
Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association.
“SIA is pleased to welcome optical space data transport provider Skyloom as our newest member,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “Thanks to incredible leaps in technological innovation, the satellite industry continues to grow at an unprecedented pace. As satellite radio spectrum is a finite resource, Skyloom’s expertise in the innovative area of space-based optical or laser-based data communications makes them an ideal addition to the Association. SIA and its members look forward to working with our newest member, Skyloom.”
Skyloom is Building an Orbital Internet Infrastructure
Skyloom is a telecommunications company building an orbital infrastructure for fiberless internet. By enabling the next big step in global connectivity, the company hopes to help usher in the next evolution in how humans communicate on earth, in space, and beyond. They plan to massively increase bandwidth, availability and resiliency, while lowering the overall cost of operations. Skyloom's proprietary technology unlocks secure high-capacity connections, whether over its end-to-end multi-orbit data transport system, or within a customer's own network.
"SIA continues to be a critical advocate for both traditional satellite industry players, as well as those of us who are treading new ground," said Skyloom CEO Marcos Franceschini. "It’s important that policy and thought leadership keep up with changing government and geopolitical landscapes and the Satellite Industry Association ensures that happens. Skyloom is honored to join SIA and looks forward to contributing to its important mission as the space renaissance continues.”
