The agreement, signed July 8 at Kanematsu’s headquarters during the annual SPACETIDE conference, names Kanematsu as Redwire’s strategic commercial partner in Japan. Kanematsu will support business development for Redwire’s power generation systems, microgravity payloads and robotics technology across both private and public sector customers, the companies said.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the agreement or a timeline for specific contracts to follow.
“Through our partnership with Kanematsu, we look forward to working alongside Japanese industry to advance innovative space technologies to further bolster Japanese capabilities for a wide variety of commercial, scientific, and national security applications,” said Mike Gold, president of Redwire Space. “Space-based capabilities impact nearly every aspect of industrial capacity and Redwire looks forward to collaborating with Kanematsu to create innovations in fields as diverse as pharmaceuticals, biotech, power generation, and Earth observation.”
Ryoichi Kidokoro, chief operating officer of Kanematsu’s Motor Vehicles & Aerospace division, said the pairing gives Japanese customers access to Redwire’s technology base as the country’s space sector expands.
“As Japan’s space ecosystem enters a dynamic new era of growth, integrating Redwire’s world-class technologies—from advanced robotics to microgravity payloads—with Kanematsu’s deep market expertise and commercial network will unlock incredible value,” Kidokoro said.
Redwire, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker RDW, has about 1,400 employees across North America and Europe.
Neither company said when the first commercial work under the agreement is expected to begin.
