OSC & CCIA Host “Shaping the Future of Space” Roundtable Discussion
Discussion Highlighted Multiple Verticals in the Space Economy
The NOAA Office of Space Commerce (OSC) and the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) recently convened a “Shaping the Future of Space” roundtable event, bringing together leaders in government and the U.S. commercial space sector to share perspectives on the future of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) broadband, In-Space Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM), and government-industry collaboration.
The roundtable began with introductory remarks from Matt Schruers, CCIA’s CEO; followed by remarks by Janice Starzyk, the Acting Director of OSC, and a special presentation from Dr. Andrew Meade McGee, the Curator of Computing at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.
Attendees then discussed the current landscape and future needs for LEO Broadband, exploring how next-generation constellations can help bridge the digital divide for millions of Americans. A roundtable discussion, facilitated by OSC’s Dianne Poster, delved into ISAM Technology and its current state, future potential, and regulatory considerations. Experts highlighted the transformative impact of ISAM on space operations and national security, while identifying regulatory gaps that currently hinder the development and commercialization of these technologies.
This roundtable was the latest in a series of convenings and seminars on the commercial space industry that the Office of Space Commerce has hosted with its partners, intended to help inform future policy and foster continued collaboration between government and industry.
