On-Orbit Docking Demonstration Moves Forward With Australian Partner
Starfish Space Taps Gilmour Satellite for Next Phase of Otter Pup 2 Mission
Starfish Space has selected Gilmour Space Technologies as the docking partner for its Otter Pup 2 on-orbit demonstration mission, targeting a docking attempt in the coming months.
“These capabilities, and the services they enable, are becoming increasingly important as space-based infrastructure scales.”

Otter Pup 2 launched in June 2025 to demonstrate rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking technologies in low Earth orbit. Following a series of successful rendezvous tests, Starfish Space chose the Gold Coast, Australia-based company for the next phase of the program.
The mission will have Otter Pup 2 perform rendezvous and proximity operations with Gilmour Space’s ElaraSat MMS-1 satellite ahead of the planned docking attempt.
“Docking and proximity operations are among the most technically challenging activities in spaceflight,” said Starfish Space Co-Founder Trevor Bennett. “These capabilities, and the services they enable, are becoming increasingly important as space-based infrastructure scales.”
Bennett said Gilmour Space’s satellite capability and operational approach made them a strong fit for the demonstration. “They have proven to be great partners to date,” he said.
Mark Grimminck, Gilmour Space Head of Satellites, said the selection validated work underway at the Australian company. “Being selected as the docking partner for this mission is an exciting opportunity for Gilmour Space and a strong endorsement of the satellite capability we’re developing here in Australia,” Grimminck said.
The collaboration gives Gilmour Space’s satellite and mission operations teams operational experience and flight heritage on proximity and docking procedures. The company is also developing the Eris launch vehicle and operates the Bowen Orbital Spaceport.
Starfish Space said further details about the mission timeline and docking campaign will be announced in the coming months.
