On-Orbit Access to Edge Computing Resources Offered
Above Space Prometheus Flint Satellite Addresses Space Data Marketplace
Exclusive access for on orbit data processing and Earth observation is being made available by Above Space on its Prometheus Flint satellite. The opportunity to access edge computing resources on orbit addresses the growing space data marketplace, with limited capacity beyond proprietary satellites.
“A growing number of organizations want to test their AI and data processing applications in space environments, but find that edge computing capacity is constrained and cost prohibitive.” Rhonda Stevenson, Above Space
Prometheus Flint offers a highly-taskable imagery and developer-accessible real time platform with script execution, and transparent cloud integration. It bridges the gap between lower resolution R&D-class assets and premium Earth Observation services. Flint enables customers to run software on orbit, including machine learning inference, edge analytics, and sensor fusion.
“A growing number of organizations want to test their AI and data processing applications in space environments, but find that edge computing capacity is constrained and cost prohibitive,” said Rhonda Stevenson, chief executive officer of Above Space. “Prometheus Flint is the first of several satellites offering on orbit data processing as well as Earth observation satellite tasking services that we will be bringing to market to provide more access for customers.”
More organizations are looking at edge computing in space, which offer potential advantages like reduced latency and dramatically smaller data downlink volumes. Time-sensitive activities including real-time image processing and AI-based autonomous decision making will take place in space in the not-too-distant future.
Commercial, research and government clients will be able to upload AI or other custom code for on orbit testing and evaluation, then download the results via a number of earth-based stations. The satellite also offers medium resolution (20 meter) optical imaging capabilities, enabling users to capture Earth images at any location on demand, with daily revisit capability.
Data capabilities will be offered as both a monthly subscription and a pay as you go basis. Following are specifications for use. Contact Above for more details under NDA.
