The Firefly Aerospace Board of Directors announced that Bill Weber is no longer serving as CEO of the company, effective immediately. Firefly board member Peter Schumacher will serve as interim CEO while the board initiates a search.
Schumacher previously served in this role at Firefly and will lead the company’s more than 700 passionate, hardworking, and talented professionals. A Transition Committee, led by board member and aerospace industry veteran Chris Emerson, will support Schumacher and the Firefly team.
No details were provided about the reasons for the change.
The company recently announced launch agreements with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) on Wallops Island, Virginia and the newly inaugurated spaceport at Esrange Space Center in Sweden.
Firefly builds small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles providing space access for government and commercial customers.
According to the Firefly website, Schumacher is a Partner at AE Industrial and is primarily focused on investment strategy, deal origination, due-diligence management, and the monitoring and growth of AE Industrial’s portfolio investments.
