On a recent episode of The Ex Terra Podcast, we talked with Adrian Nixon of Nixene Publishing, and that interview left us wanting to learn more about the potential of graphene in Space Commerce applications.
This time, we're digging deeper to find out how companies can commercialize the research that has been taking place in the industry.
Ray Gibbs is Director of Commercialization in Graphene/2-D Materials for the University of Manchester|Graphene Engineering Innovation Center. Ray goes in-depth with us on the four primary areas of near term commercialization of graphene in space commerce: Energy, Structures, filtration and Sensors.
The University of Manchester is the home of graphene – it is where the one-atom thick material was first isolated.
Today, the University has a broad range of academic expertise and work in collaboration with dozens of partners. By leveraging the research power along with the vast infrastructure we have put in place we can leverage the investment in fundamental science and facilities to collaboratively generate value, IP and skills needed for the development of products and applications.
The National Graphene Institute brings together the leading edge of fundamental science in 2D materials with the latest equipment and engineering expertise in an unparalleled offer to industry partners.
The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) helps companies develop and launch new technologies, products and processes that exploit the remarkable properties of graphene and other 2D materials.
The GEIC’s facilities and resources are supported by experienced and knowledgeable applications engineers and internationally renowned academics, working across a very broad range of novel technologies and applications. The GEIC can help companies design, develop, scale and ‘de-risk’ the next generation of innovative products and processes.
