In November, Foxconn successfully launched two LEO broadband satellites on board a Falcon 9 dedicated rideshare launch vehicle from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. As a pilot run of its LEO satellites, the mission was proof of concept for Foxconn’s broadband communications efforts and next-generation beyond 5G (B5G) capabilities.
“SIA is very pleased to welcome Foxconn as the newest member of SIA,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “The Company’s global electronics manufacturing expertise, its decision to begin developing space-based technologies and the recent successful launch of its inaugural PEARL LEO connectivity satellites make Foxconn an ideal affiliate member of the Association.”
“Foxconn is venturing into satellite constellation manufacturing with the aim to industrialize the LEO sector with our ICT experience,” said Jesse Chao, Senior Director of Beyond 5G Strategy, at Foxconn. “Joining SIA means we can gain valuable insights from a leading advocate for a safe, secure, and sustainable space environment and support our business development.”
Affiliate membership in SIA is open to satellite companies as well as supporting entities that advocate and promote the domestic commercial satellite industry. SIA Affiliate Members receive a number of benefits including attendance at SIA’s Annual Association Meeting, participation in all open SIA meetings and most events (excluding the SIA Leadership Dinner) and SIA Member discounts to industry events.
