DOC Builds Partnerships in 13th U.S.-E.U. Space Dialogue

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) joined U.S. government and European Union (E.U.) colleagues in Washington, D.C. recently for the 13th U.S.-E.U. Space Dialogue.
DOC attendees included representatives from NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, the Office of Space Commerce, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Deputy Assistant Secretary for International and Space Affairs Juan Caro led the DOC delegation’s participation.
Throughout both days, the U.S. and E.U. delegations discussed topics ranging from spaceflight safety and space security concerns, to reducing barriers to trade and commerce in the space sector – recalling the Joint Statement agreed between President Trump and European Commission President von der Leyen on August 21, 2025, to pursue fair, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade and investment. The dialogue, held at an opportune time with the first draft of the E.U. Space Act open for public comment, helped foster collaboration with our E.U. counterparts and encouraged continued industry and government partnerships, and strengthened longstanding synchronization between the United States and European Union on both Global Navigation Satellite Systems and Earth observation activities.
On September 8, in cooperation with the Department of State and the Meridian International Center, the Office of Space Commerce facilitated a Chatham House discussion between E.U. government officials and U.S. space industry, association, and academic sector representatives. During this roundtable, U.S. participants were afforded the opportunity to learn more about the European Commission’s draft EU Space Act; to provide candid perspectives and feedback directly to E.U. leaders about the draft text; and to strengthen our person-to-person trans-Atlantic space sector relationships.
The 14th iteration of the Space Dialogue will be held in Brussels.
