Commercial Space Supply Chain Forum Set for Aug. 18
Second Event In OSC Series Targets Manufacturing And Supplier Gaps
The Office of Space Commerce and the Aerospace Industries Association will host a forum on the U.S. commercial space supply chain Aug. 18 in Arlington, Va.
The Commercial Space Supply Chain Forum will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at AIA headquarters. It is the second event in OSC’s Commercial Space Competitiveness Forum series, which is intended to connect the commercial space industry with federal agencies.
According to the announcement, the U.S. commercial space industry’s growth is putting pressure on the industrial base that supports it. The release cites a range of interconnected challenges facing suppliers, manufacturers and integrators, including demand visibility, manufacturing capacity, component availability, testing and qualification, access to capital, and regulatory and compliance requirements.
Sessions will address eight topics: domestic manufacturing capacity; constraints among Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers; supply chain dependencies and demand visibility; capital access and manufacturing investment; testing and qualification capacity; regulatory and compliance pressures; export considerations; and barriers to emerging technology adoption. The forum will combine panels with what the announcement calls “hands-on working sessions.”
The stated goal is to identify policy priorities and actions that could strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of the U.S. commercial space industrial base.
