Best New Satellite Service Award Goes to OneWeb
The 2023 Aviation Achievement Award for Best New Satellite Service has been bestowed on OneWeb. The award recognizes a satellite operator or connectivity service provider that is introducing an exceptional new service for the aviation industry.
“From the outset, our strategy has been to seek out and partner with the industry’s best hardware manufacturers, integrators, and distribution partners to build a robust connectivity ecosystem with expertise in all areas of service delivery.
Ben Griffin, OneWeb vice president Mobility and AMEA Region.
OneWeb’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network has garnered much interest and enthusiasm from airlines in the Middle East and around the world with the promise to deliver a truly global high-speed, low-latency inflight connectivity solution for passengers and crew.
For airline passengers, OneWeb’s global coverage and low latency performance will drive the inflight experience to new levels of personalization and sophistication, delivering a rich and immersive inflight connectivity experience limited only by the user’s imagination - not the available bandwidth. For airlines, a truly connected fleet strategy, and all the efficiencies that this can deliver, can finally be realized.
Best New Satellite Service Award Criteria
After thoroughly assessing a broad field of entries, the expert judging panel named OneWeb as Best New Satellite Service based on the cutting-edge advancements the network has driven, it’s unique ‘for the industry, by the industry’ approach, and the connected ecosystem that OneWeb is creating with multi-orbit operability and leading global distribution partners.
Accepting the award on behalf of OneWeb was Ben Griffin vice president Mobility and AMEA Region. “While a very exciting achievement for OneWeb, this recognition is not ours alone to celebrate," Griffin said. “From the outset, our strategy has been to seek out and partner with the industry’s best hardware manufacturers, integrators, and distribution partners to build a robust connectivity ecosystem with expertise in all areas of service delivery. We thank the folks at Creative Middle East, as well as our trusted technology and distribution partners for this award – which is testament to the validity of this strategy.”
“We have overcome some tough challenges along our journey. We have nevertheless maintained focus on our mission to connect the unconnected – on land, at sea and in the air. We’re now just two launches away from completing our full constellation and beginning operations,” Griffin said.
OneWeb is developing advanced electronically steered array (ESA) antenna hardware with leading firms Stellar Blu and Ball Aerospace. Distribution partners in commercial aviation include Panasonic Avionics and Intelsat. In business aviation, aircraft operators can work with Satcom Direct or Gogo to access the benefits of OneWeb connectivity.
